No idea sorry, the game uses steam voice chat (directly) so I don't understand how one can work and the other doesn't. Perhaps you are playing on older (un-updated) game servers that don't correct support the new codec?

And that's why you should force protocol version change, so players can't play on older servers.

@xPaw is right. Many people just restored backup of an old cs (build 4554) after updates and continue playing it now with 'do not automatically update this game' opted in Steam. This build also uses old voice codec, so they can't be heard on updated clients. @alfred-valve are you going to change client's and server's protocols to 49?

@vjatseslav Alfred said he was going to change it at some point a little while back, hopefully it'll be when the next non-beta hlds update gets released.
