Looks like it's not linux specific - I booted Windows 7 and tried Portal 2 - same misbehaviour as posted above.
Today all works great again - all subscribed items are being loaded.
May I suggest, that you implement some kind of client-side caching for workshop-items, so that subscribed items, that are already on the disc and in the cached list are being displayed directly and that the synchronisation happens in the background - or forced by a "update now" button. For the map that one may start... if workshop is available update to latest version - if not play version from disc... just some ideas.
Valve's user generated content servers are absolutely terrible. They're down ~ 95% of the time down, console is filled with Cannot connect to UGC server
, it's insane. I know this isn't Linux specific, but it means that playing with friends is more a "Want to attempt to play Portal 2, and if that fails, play ${anothergamenamehere}?", which is an utterly terrible way of playing. Not only that, but Valve likes to prance around boasting about how user generated content makes their games and that more developers should do it (See:- SteamDevDays), and yet you can't even maintain your own servers.
Please Valve, please. We want to play your games and make content for them, but you make it next to impossible.
Hello everbody! I alt-tabbed out of the game while the list of subscribed maps was loading (wanted to play community single player maps), to check my emails. Re-entering the game I only saw a few items - but the rest of the list just didn't load. When I visit "subscribed items" in the steam workshop I clearly have more subscribed items - and not those few I subscribed to long ago, that show up ingame. Things I tried, that didn't help:
The only thing that works is going through my subscribed items - looking for items that I didn't already play and do an unsubscribe and subscribe again - nerve-taking...
Is there a way to force the game to reload the list correctly and show all subscribed items and not just a fraction?
