I can start portal 2, then I click start new game, but when there are about two more dots to lit up, portal seems to crash or get into a loop. Other games like portal 1 and Half Life 2 work without issues.

Sigh, I had read the issues list but must have over looked this one. Me bad. Besides him using arch it seems to be the same prob. From earlier experience I noticed Arch and openSUSE seem to have the same issues. ( and solutions)

It does not crash for me on openSUSE 13.1 (x86_64) with nVidia 331.20 drivers. The problem could be related to the AMD Catalyst drivers.

@istvan-v No check the first tracked issue #4 also some people with NVIDIA drivers get crashs but they are more rare.

That could be a different issue, though; some people get similar crashes even on Windows. Also, at #4 it has been reported that switching to the open source Radeon drivers fixed the crash.

Latest portal 2 update, seems to have fixed it.

I was able to start a new game. Looked at the painting and I ended up in the first test chamber. Thank you guys.
