Missing Blend tab in hammer #86

Hammer seems to be missing the blends tab , under the sculpt option in hammer. It should look like this >> blends This is a feature that has been supported in all valve games and tools since 2010. Without this it is impossible to use multi-blend materials in our maps, which alot of mods have been doing since they were introduced. Could we please see this return soon

I don't see how this is going to happen, since they will not pull in any features from other forks of the Source Engine. A lot of the features will remain as they were in the 2009 fork.

i don't want to sound entitled or argumentative but i hope that's not true as this was available in the last sdk (alienswarm) , if valve are wanting people to adopt this new branch over the old asw then shouldn't it at least include the base features that were previously present ?

I can understand why they may not want to pull some features to the 2013 sdk, but some should at least be considered to keep the sdk consistent with what was previously available in asw. Its been many years since a proper update to the source sdk was released and during this time most modders have moved to the swarm branch of the engine.. and currently it would seem that the main real advantages of switching to the 2013 sdk over Asw is the steampipe ,vpk2, ,Vr support and osx /linux.

Alternatively if we don't see swarm features migrate to 2013 could we perhaps see these 2013 features added to swarm instead? ( realistically i realize that osx and linux support probably wouldn't come to the swarm game itself, but the ability for mods on this branch to build for osx/linux would be useful)

I do realize this isn't a discussion forum but maybe someone from valve can comment on their plans for the sdk going forward? is the alienswarm sdk no longer supported? is it possible that we will ever see a full sdk for a newer title?

Problem is that Alien Swarm is unsupported by Valve. Even licensees are being told not to use that engine. I believe Jonathan Sutton is the lead programmer for Alien Swarm, and we've been promised with the utils, tier0 and mathlib to be released this year, but still it wasn't released. From what I've heard, he might not be working at Valve anymore. And since it's not supported by Valve, I doubt there's going to be any update for the SDK at all.

Source 2013 doesn't come with the engine changes that Alien Swarm does, which were introduced in Left 4 Dead, such as L4D style GameUI, multiple model instancing for fast rendering, map instance support and a whole lot more, where 2013 only brings in Linux and OS X, VR, Steampipe and Sixsense support.

In short, I don't think there will be any updates for this engine. If licensees are being told not to touch it, and Jonathan, the lead programmer for Alien Swarm is not working at Valve anymore (still needs confirmation). I wanted to port my mod from Alien Swarm to SE2013 but it doesn't include all the features ASW has, like instance support, blending, GameUI and a lot more.

The SDK is released in support of our HL2 and MP branches and contains the functionality of those games, it doesn't include a backport from other products features.
