Guide Menu / Overlay Doesn't Always Function in Big Picture Mode (BPM) #10372

Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

In big picture mode, while in game, activating the left-side guide menu via the PS4 guide button does not consistently appear. Additionally, sometimes when it does, it is not always intractable via the controller and requires a mouse to use.

To further elaborate on what happens when it doesn't appear at all, I hear the effect that's supposed to play from pressing the button but the menu overlay doesn't actually show up. Pressing the button again to "close" the menu also plays the expected sound but doesn't help with subsequent attempts either.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Set the STEAM_FORCE_DESKTOPUI_SCALING environment variable to 2.0 (I have a large 4K display and need this set)
  2. Install 100% Orange Juice (game I used for testing)
  3. Opt into the Proton 8.0-5rc beta
  4. Set the game to use that proton version
  5. Launch the game, while in big picture mode
  6. Set the game to use the highest permitted resolution it supports (1080p, fullscreen)
  7. While in-game, press the guide button a few times. It may work initially, but it's not consistent and will cease to do so at some point and may suddenly start working again with repeated attempts but possibly without (dualshock 4) controller input functioning.

Were you able to get this working? I'm experiencing something similar, but I can never get the menu to display in big picture, inside or outside of a game. I tried both Wayland and X11. I also tried both fullscreen and windowed.
