White distorted playback of fullscreen videos in shop #10597

Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When I view a video in the shop in full screen, I expect the video to be displayed in full screen, it is visible and the sound is clear. Instead it goes to full screen but is white with occasional black flickering (stroboscope like) and the audio is distorted. I cannot get out of said "white-full-screen" but using the windows key (yes, I know the irony) on my keyboard and then select another program. I will continue to hear the distorted sound. Using the steam-icon gnomes top-bar I then can select the shop and the video will stop and the shop will load.

I can be reproduced to 100%. The issue seems to have appeared after the last update of steam.

When viewing the videos not in full-screen all is fine.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Set steam to fullscreen.
  2. Go to the shop and open and game with a video in its shop page.
  3. Enable sound (optional step)
  4. Play the video
  5. Set the video to fullscreen.

Same issue here. Using NixOS unstable (could also reproduce on NixOS 23.11) with "Intel UHD Graphics 630"/"GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile" (occurs on both). steam-logs.tar.gz Disabling hardware video decoding in settings doesn't help.

In my case, I can exit the full-screen by hitting esc or by right-clicking and selecting "back". Left-clicks are unresponsive.

Disabling hardware video decoding in settings doesn't help.

I tried the same also with no result.

I'm on Arch, if I attempt to fullscreen a video from a game's Store page, the whole client window (minus the client UI) goes black and sometimes I can't click anything either, forced to kill and restart the client. 2024 03 17_14:41:22

I have the same issue as krompus

I have the same (original) issue on Ubuntu 22.04.4: 'full screen video' (in a non-maximized steam) delivers a white/static/strobe screen. when steam is started via its desktop icon.

However the 'white screen' issue problem does not occure when:

I guess it is Nvidia related.

This does not help fix the 'black screen' issue (#10692), which still happens for me when steam is already maximized and then the video is selected to show fullscreen.

Note I have:

Also steam settings "Enable GPU accel.." and "Enable hardware video.." do not have impact on both issues.

However the 'white screen' issue problem does not occure when:

* Running "steam" from terminal

* Running steam via icon->rightclick and select "Launch using integrated graphic card"

Thank you. I tried it but unfortunately both options do no fix my issue.

I guess it is Nvidia related.

I have an AMD system.

This does not help fix the 'black screen' issue (#10692), which still happens for me when steam is already maximized and then the video is selected to show fullscreen.

I do not have the black-screen issue. I guess they are unrelated.

On both Steam stable and beta, I consistently get the "strobe" screen when putting store videos into fullscreen as well, but only when web view GPU acceleration is disabled. I have it disabled right now because otherwise I get #10793. KDE Plasma 6.0.4-1 Wayland with RX 5700 XT (amdgpu driver, Mesa 24.0.6-2), so not NVIDIA-specific. This could be potentially seizure-inducing, especially with how the Escape key doesn't work to get out of it (Alt+F4 works though), so I think this should get more attention.

Getting this issue with Kubuntu 24.04 on an RTX 3050M (monitor refresh rate is 144 Hz)

Cannot escape the video by pressing Escape, haven't tried right click. Can still pause the video with space. Escaped by alt-tabbing and closing the Steam window, then reopening it to library with the tray icon.
