Some external controllers can't open up the quick access menu (shortcut broken or changed) #11424

Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

The shortcut to open the quick access menu no longer works on a variety of external controllers I use. It SHOULD be "Home button + A button" (or X button in the case of the Dualsense, etc. The bottom face button in any case). This does not work with the Dualsense, Steam Controller, or Dualshock 4 in my testing. Strangely, it DOES work on my 8bitdo Pro 2 controller (using x-input mode). It does work with Steam Deck's built in controls too of course. If I hold the home buttons and wait for the cheat sheet of shortcuts to open up, that particular shortcut looks broken. I can't remember exactly what it says (I'll double check and edit later), but it says something like "D key, Windows Desktop"

Additionally, I can't find any way to reset these bindings for particular controllers. Is there a way to reset it to workaround this issue?

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. In Steam interface or in-game (anywhere), press the QAM shortcut (Home + A, etc) on certain externally connected controllers (Dualsense, Dualshock, Steam Controller)
  2. Nothing happens.

@kisak-valve Thank you for transferring this to the proper issue tracker and adding the proper tags, so sorry I didn't do all that right the first time!

Additionally I took a screenshot of the "cheat sheet" that pops up when holding the Dualsense home button, showing some strange shortcuts. Further testing some of these listed shortcuts also revealed:

  1. The shortcut for turning off the controller (Home + Triangle) does not work.
  2. The shortcut for bringing up the keyboard is different than the stock shortcut (should be Home + Square I think) and also this one doesn't work anyway.
  3. Doing the "Quit Big Picture" shortcut causes strange behavior that necessitated a reboot to properly re-initiate Game Mode on the Steam Deck. 20241104_122533 - Copy
