[HL1] Save games lost on a reinstall #1394

Closed Tele42 closed 11 years ago

Tele42 commented 11 years ago

If HL1 save games are cloud saved, then they should travel with the user from computer to computer. When HL1 is deleted from steam (and counterstrike) the save files are purged and they are not brought back on re-install. I can only assume that the save files are not being synced by steam.

alfred-valve commented 11 years ago

OS details? Steam does cloud sync HL1 saves.

Tele42 commented 11 years ago

my OS details can be found on #1390, that is an hour old.

Tele42 commented 11 years ago

Perhaps the issue is with steam fetching from the cloud on a re-install or an install on a second computer.

olavd commented 11 years ago

@alfred-valve Doesn't sync here either. Did you remember to change this bit after moving the savegame folders?

thegreatprophetzarquon commented 11 years ago

As far as I know, Half-life doesn't use Steam cloud. The properties menu doesn't mention it, (Although interestingly, Big Picture mode does), and my windows save files are not syncing to my Linux box. The saves also don't reappear on ether platform if I uninstall the game and then reinstall it. I'm using Linux Mint Debian, which is similar to Debian Testing.

Okay, cloud was disabled, I have turned it on for HL1.

johndrinkwater commented 11 years ago

Even though its now enabled (and visible in client), nothing seems to be syncing. Created new saves, disabled & enabled it, deleted & reinstalled HL, 0KB is being stored. [on linux beta]

thegreatprophetzarquon commented 11 years ago

Works fine on my end.

alfred-valve commented 11 years ago

can you run "xdg-open steam://open/console" to open the Steam console, then type "app_info_print 70" and then post the output of that here please. Its working on my linux box fine too :) Oh, and restart steam.

Tele42 commented 11 years ago

I'm seeing the same as johndrinkwater https://gist.github.com/Tele42/ed206600139c0ebcb621 and steam was started ~10 minutes ago.

johndrinkwater commented 11 years ago

I made sure to restart steam to get the ufs change, https://gist.github.com/johndrinkwater/4762002 from what I can tell, my save game location is called Half-Life/valve/SAVE/, assuming case may be causing this problem.

alfred-valve commented 11 years ago

Try it now, I fixed the capitalization of the SAVE folder in the Steam cloud setup.

Tele42 commented 11 years ago

Okay, after a bit of testing, SteamApps/common/Half-Life/valve/SAVE and config files are no longer deleted on uninstall. In the properties it reports 0 bytes stored / 100 MB available. This issue is resolved.

Tele42 commented 11 years ago

I did some testing today and my previous report is no longer valid, the save files are lost when the folder cleanup occurs upon removal of all goldsource games. This issue report should stay on hold until https://github.com/ValveSoftware/halflife/issues/379 is resolved as this issue may disappear once the cloud sync behaves properly.

Edit: correct cross-reference
