Me too, STEAM_RUNTIME set to 1, goes fullscreen, tells me I can access the Community with shift+tab, then stays black for a moment, and crashes.
Intel Celeron CPU 550 @ 2.00GHz 4GB RAM Ubuntu 12.10 32 bit
Crashes with:
/home/my_user/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/my_username/Team Fortress 2/hl2.sh: line 72: 7532 Segmentation fault (core dumped) ${GAME_DEBUGGER} "${GAMEROOT}"/${GAMEEXE} "$@" Game removed: AppID 440 "Team Fortress 2", ProcID 7532
I have the same exact issues and same seg fault as BenjaminRH. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5870. Using the proprietary AMD drivers available on Mint Linux... not sure the versions.
But other games running in fullscreen or?
CS 1.6 works for me. CSS/TF2 do not.
i have the same problem but only using cinnamon, gnome classic works fine, there is also a workaround for cinnamon. When the game is launched pres ctrl+alt+f1 to go to the first terminal and then go back to grapical terminal with using ctrl+alt+f7, works for me.
@razorbackdb Doesn't seem to work on gnome classic for me. I think yours might be a different issue.
Evrim02 issue is that the game just shows a blackscreen in fullscreen but they work in windowed mode, in yours the game crash, so yeah they are different.
@Evrim02, does ctrl-alt-f1 followed by ctrl-alt-f7 help? Sounds similar to ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games#157
I try it when im at home again :) Am 19.02.2013 01:27 schrieb "Jørgen P. Tjernø" notifications@github.com:

@razorbackdb Thank you :+1:
CTRL+ALT+F1 then CTRL+ALT+F7 and CTRL+ALT+F8 works for me !!
@jorgenpt @Evrim02
Just wanted to clarify that if you are using Mint the keystroke combo to drop to console then get back to X is: CTRL+ALT+F1 Then to get back to X it is: ALT+F8
If you are using Ubuntu the keystroke is similar with one exception, the X console is 7th instead of 8th so the key combination is: ALT+F7
However, in Mint when you have restarted your mdm service, the X console switches to the default 7 so the key combination is like in Ubuntu, ALT+F7
The CTRL key doesn't have to be pressed to switch consoles from the text mode console. Only ALT + console number needs to be used. The CTRL key only has to be used to switch to text mode console from an X based console.
Closing this as a dupe of ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games#157 - we can continue the discussion there.
@Evrim02 - that's purely a workaround, we should fix the underlying issue. @d7gonzo - ah, good to know. Thanks!
@jorgenpt: The duplicate issue #157 does not appear to have a seg fault. Should we open a new ticket for those of us that get the seg fault?
@concealed: :+1:, that sounds reasonable. Create one in ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games.
I have the same problem like many other user
