I can confirm this happening to me as well, although I am not sure how to extract the log files or crash dump info. Steam closes gracefully(without any error messages) so I can't exactly specify what is happening. This happened to me when I clicked to view the Genuine Wyvernguard Edge, and has a 100% chance of crashing Steam.
EDIT: Steam seems to completely close down; once it crashes I can't see any evidence of it running (looking at the results from top)
I'm running a stock Ubuntu 12.10 on a Lenovo ThinkPad x230
Here is some info from Help -> System Info through Steam: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5565385/ // Help -> System Info
Here is some more CPU/Mem info grabbed from /proc/cpuinfo & /proc/meminfo: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5565346/ // Cpu http://paste.ubuntu.com/5565352/ // Mem at time of crash, not sure if this is particularly usefull
Another CEF/Chromium crash, we'll need to repro locally.
A future beta client will have a fix for this.
I think yesterday's beta client has the fix for this. Do you still see it after updating?
It works without crashes! Thank you!
I still crash when trying to view an item in the marketplace. I made sure to force a check for an update to the latest client through the steam app itself; it reported that it had the most up to date version of the steam client available.
Are you running the Steam client beta? The fix is only in the beta.

I'm sorry, your right I'm not using the beta. I'll keep an eye out for updates in the future.
You can opt into the beta if you want to try it. In the client go to Settings, choose the Account tab and then click the button down in the beta participation section to try the beta out.
No requirement that you do so, though, that's only if you'd like to try it now.
Tried it, everything is working fine, thanks.
How can I join the beta if Steam crashes with this error on startup? Is there perhaps a programmatic way to switch?
This particular issue won't help you since it's specific to browsing the market after Steam is running. If you're having problems with an immediate crash on startup the most likely problem is a video driver issue and the beta wouldn't be crucial. There are a number of issues open here with discussions about that kind of thing, plus startup crashes in general.
