Please report this issue to the game dev. (https://bugzilla.icculus.org/buglist.cgi?product=Dungeon%20Defenders&component=everything&resolution=---)
I have a same (similar) issue on ArchLinux, the game crashes right after the splash screen. Using nVidia GT640M via Bumblebee (optirun steam), when running on integrated intel HD4000, the game, intro sequence etc run just fine. (But the game is unusable slow in the iGPU). So I guess it is something with the nvidia GPU, also missing 'linux32/libsteam.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory' might not be an issue as it appears on intel gpu too (and game runs..)
cross-referencing this issue in the game's upstream: https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5915
I had the same issue too, but after i unchecked "enable steam community in-game" i have had no crashes in days on both my machines.
I have the same issue with "brutal Legend" on Sabayon linux. (and sorry about the format of my output. Don't know how to make it in a fancy box)

no one seems to fix this problem. It seems as if the game dev doesn't mind making a few dollars of us with a game that doesn't really work on linux. We reported the errors and no body seems to answer or fix it and it's not that the bug is a simple small nuisance but it actually is a not working game. with all do respect can't Steam/Valve do something about this?
Not really. It works on many systems, so it technically works. The devs of the third party game have been notified. Just because there's no answer nor any fix doesn't mean they aren't trying to fix it. When it comes to graphics-specific performance/crashes, things can be really hard to nail down.
The two typical solutions are turning off the steam overlay or, barring that, running without the steam runtime (if possible).
What makes things worse is that the developer outsourced the porting.
Well it would be nice to have a notice like "this game doesn't support mouse sensitivity" or "works on some GPU here is the list" because it has been more than a YEAR... now what you're saying is pretty much give them some time because they may or may not be working on this bug, to that I must ask isn't that more than enough time? Isn't a working game is what I paid for? I mean I get that some bugs are hard to fix but if you would look at the bugs on the game you will see that must of them if not all aren't been addressed.
Yeah and as for the all ideas for fixing this problem, I tried turning off the steam overlay and I tried different drivers, open source or proprietary, I even tried only using Intel drivers and a different distro still crashing...
P.S As much as all the bugs that are out there which make the game just a bit lame like no mouse sensitivity I really only care about the game randomly crashing
Do you have any of the logs for the crashes? On Jun 27, 2014 5:46 PM, "Logan" notifications@github.com wrote:

Isn't a working game is what I paid for?
And it does work, just not for you. That's the issue. Valve, publishers, and other affiliates just have to put forth a good-faith effort that it works on the majority of systems. Imagine you have a driver's license and buy a jet. Just because you bought a jet and have a license doesn't mean you can -pilot- the jet. It also doesn't mean the jet's manufacturer failed to produce a functional jet. Similar situation. You bought a functional game that currently fails to work on your current rig. It's frustrating, though.
I agree, it's been a long time, but you can't always fix an issue immediately. Not every developer can understand every nuance of every graphics device; it might be a case of "it should work. Why isn't it working?" (which is second only to "why is it working? It shouldn't work..."). Trust me, I'd like to see this issue resolved because we need a huge catalog of games for linux that work for it to be taken seriously as a platform.
Also report it directly to the developer as well with system specs and a log. Whining without giving information to a developer does nothing but make the Linux community look bad. Hope they're quick about patching it though! :) On Jun 27, 2014 7:09 AM, "Logan" notifications@github.com wrote:

MrSchism how do you know that it works on most (linux)system? are you saying that because you have some sort of data that shows you that or are you just speculating?(I'm asking just to know and nothing more than that) I think that if I bought a jet, that jet would have to be working... if the jet stops working in mid air from some reason that could mean that the manufacturer is at fault, sure it can mean that I'm a bad pilot but until you prove otherwise it can be both. When you sell something, unless you specify otherwise it means that it's working for everyone, of course there are error here and there and no body is perfect but if for some reason it's not working on some system and you have no intention of fixing the problem then you just need to specify.
Now since the "manufacturer" isn't really answering, as you can see in https://bugzilla.icculus.org/buglist.cgi?component=everything&product=Dungeon%20Defenders
and as you can see it's not just me: https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5833 https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6028 https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5926 https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5934 Ohh look the last one is me from last year with Ubuntu and fglrx

I've personally had it work on three different linux systems (SteamOS/Nvidia GTX780, Xubuntu/Radeon 7770HD, Xubuntu/Radeon 4200 series integrated). I've had friends also install it on their systems. I've watched this tracker since the first issue.
At this point, the people responsible for the game getting ported are responsible for continued fixes to the port as a means of maintenance.
At this point, the people responsible for the game getting ported are responsible for continued fixes to the port as a means of maintenance. You are 110% right! I don't really think that Valve is responsable for the maintenance of this port but as you can see we tried talking with the people that are responsable but they simply didn't respond. I believe that a message from you will be of more significance than some random guy on the internet.
I've personally had it work on three different linux systems How long did you try to run it? The crashes ouccr between 5 to 90 minutes into the game and I am almost sure that at the begining I played even longer with no interruption. It really doesn't matter, for some people the game is working just fine but for others it doesn't and the people that the game isn't working for them just gave up.
I would like to prove to you that I am right and try to find a way to reproduce the bug but I don't want to waste my time tracing a bug that no one will ever fix or even care that I found, if I will find a way to reproduce it will that be a sufficient reason for you to contact them?(although I still think all of this is sufficient but nevertheless I will do it if you say so).
I'm just a moderator here; I'm not a Valve employee. According to my Steam history, I played the game for about five hours. At least one session was on my SteamOS install, another on Xubuntu.
In the morning, I'll attempt to see how long it takes for it to crash (if I can replicate a crash). That's one thing missing from many reports.
How does it perform with FGLRX?
Locate because of what the game crash. The problem billboards EV (a character). If they are present at on the map, the game vylitaet.

MrSchism it failed on fglrx like on everything else, I was able to crash it on Nvidia 525M and right now Im trying to crash it with gdb to make sure it was for the same reason although it seems to take longer so maybe it was for a different reason.
f1aky billboards EV are on everymap?
logan123, yes
If EV is involved, then https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5847 is the upstream bug report and http://steamcommunity.com/app/65800/discussions/0/846957366801590893/ is a potential workaround / crash avoidance.
I think you can close this issue, I don't really think anybody cares. Trendy simply ignores this and well I don't think anybody at Valve are really interested in the fact that they are selling a game that is not 100% or even 80% working (MrSchism after reading some of the posts on the workaround I think I understand just how much they don't care). So thank you MrSchism,Tele42 and f1aky it was fun.
btw Tele42 a workaround offer by users more than a year a go is not acceptable, it just shows how much they don't care.
Closing this isn't going to do anything. Keeping it open makes it so that it's easier to find for people who recently bought it while letting them know that it's not resolved.
The game crashes after 20-30 minutes of playing, it seems random.
