Feature request: Embedded xterm in Steam Shift-Tab view #2268

Hello, Maybe this sounds like pointless idea, but I think embedded xterm in Shift + Tab could be handy for people who need access to SSH servers. Personally I own some gaming servers and I need to switch to another window, which slowers game a bit. This is not a problem, but I am loosing "control" of game.

Possible responses: Q: Why to embed a xterm? You can switch! A: Yes I can switch to 3rd window, but why to switch if SHift + Tab View is capable to handle another window? Its just like Chat window, nothing else. Another reason is that "xterm" can be modded like normal terminals to be transparent. Another process on background can slow the game.

Q: What about un-experienced users? A: Non-experienced users on Linux? OK. This is a bad spot. Especially on console-like systems. Howerer its easy to write "Experienced users only".

Q: Whats the purpose for xterm? A: A light-weight console terminal. Allows experienced users to control system and / or dedicated servers. Personally I will really appreciate, embedded xterm has sense IMHO.

Q: Embedded terminal will confuse users. A: I agree. This can be problem. I am aware of this point.

I think its handy to have something like this, of course this option will be not present on console systems.

xterm is not the only option - but its commonly used.

Yeah. Looks good. If valve can't embed Xterm, maybe it might be easier to make their own Steam terminal emulator.

when I shift+tab, I can open my yakuake with F12 key. I'm not sure if it is convenient for you though. http://guake.org/ http://yakuake.kde.org/

I like the idea. Personally, if I ever saw it implemented, I'd want it implemented ONLY with a toggle in the settings to prevent people from accidentally doing something stupid.

Then again, I'm the one who wanted a browser window integrated into the standard-view, not just Big-Picture Mode.

On the flip side, Valve has already had to deal with some people complaining about the size of their updates and including a terminal (with potential issues) could pose a bigger challenge than just adding/making a terminal emulator.

I tested guake and Guake automatically alt-tab the game. its a good idea IMHO, when guake doesn't alt-tab the game.
