Additionally, I've found that Steam's double click timeout is subtly different (lower) from what Ubuntu sets by default. What often happens is that I double-click on a game like I'm used to, only to have nothing happen because I didn't click fast enough. I don't even notice this immediately, because the "Launching game..." dialog or the game itself can take a few seconds to pop up.
It's extremely irritating and severely hampers the usability of the client. This should be regarded a Bug rather than a Feature Request.
Changing "Double-Click Timeout" in System Settings -> Mouse and Touchpad does not affect the steam client, for example when launching a game by double clicking on it.
