CEC support in a big picture #2817

Hello guys. As you know the CEC technology exists. It isn't a very popular one, but the several media centers support it. For example a very popular XBMC. Libcec provides a useful opportunity. For example, it could turn on TV and switch input source to HDMI. And vice versa you could navigate in xbmc menu using TV remote. Xbox and Play Station use this technology too. You can turn on your game console and TV will turn on automatically.

In general, I think, a libcec support in the Steam Client could be very useful thing, especially for the Big Picture mode.

CEC not being popular? Thats got to change. +1

I think it became more actual, when SteamBox and SteamOS was annonced. So, I hope, Valve will add CEC suport =)

This is must have for any device connected to modern TVs.

+1 for this! I only control my HTPC trough CEC

A sure must have for a bigscreen application. CEC will enhance the usability with software like xbmc(kodi), since steam is currently a show stopper. I can start steam bigpicture from xbmc, but I need a controller or a keyboard to get back to xbmc.

Also for maybe, later existing VoD Steam Apps, a single remote is a woman acceptance factor (WAF).

Here just an simple way to get a small cec support : https://github.com/bramp/libcec-daemon From @bramp

bramp commented 8 years ago

I'd be more than happy to adapt libcec-daemon in whatever way needed to work with steam. However directly integrating with libcec isn't too hard either.

Should this be closed since at least gamemode supports CEC?
