Actually I just checked and this is an error with color correction. Turning it off lightens up my screen. Turn it on and everything is near pitch black.
I am still having this issue even with newer graphics cards on debian wheezy stable, all graphics cards installed the debian way at:

I've been looking through the issues and I think this error stems from #19.
Backporting mesa from debian testing (9.1.6) to see if it resolves the issue.
Why do you have the nvidia drivers installed? Do you have an optimus system? According to the tf2 console log it uses the integrated intel gpu.
@mtmkls Yes I have the nvidia drivers installed along with bumblebee because I have an optimus system. I apologize I'll post some more details about my system according to the instructions I just ran across.

@codygman keep in mind that steam and valve games are 32bit and you need to update the 32bit install of mesa for it to affect the game. Also, using glxgears is not proof that primusrun is ready for TF2 because it is a 64bit program on your system, while the game is 32bit (and possibly missing bits).
@Tele42 With that in mind I will be sure to update all of my mesa (32bit and 64bit) and let you know how it goes.

I installed a separate glxinfo32 for this reason.
Is this issue still active? This seems like something outside of Steam.
As far as I know it is. I haven't had time to test things due to limited time. Mostly because backporting those packages to debian is time consuming. I may be able to confirm whether or not the issue is fixed by any posted solutions next weekend, though I can't promise it.
