"View Game Info" button still unavailable on Linux #5549

There is now no way to see on what Source Server a friend is playing. I can't join games\server my friends playing without them sending me an invite. Previously I was able to right-click on friend and select "View Game Info" button to join games.

Despite "Added 'View Game Info' button when clicking on in-game friends. NOTE: Not currently available in web interface." in patch notes, I'm still unable to see this button on Linux. It is unclear if it coming on Linux later or this is a bug.

@kisak-valve I've received notification from you asking about this issue, but there are no new messages here.

Yes, this issue is still not fixed on latest up-to-date Steam Client Beta. "View Game Info" button is unavailable in Steam beta Friends List UI. I test it on friends who play Left4Dead 2 on Valve official server and other community servers. "View Game Info" also unavailable in Friends List inside In-Game Overlay, but I can access it via legacy menu in Friends section of In-Game Overlay.

Hello @sizeofbool, per "Rich presence features (View Game Info, Join Game, Launch Game) now work on macOS and Linux" in the 2018-08-13 Steam client beta update, please retest this issue.

The previous notification you mentioned is most likely from a much older issue report.

@kisak-valve I can't reproduce this issue any more on latest up-to-date Steam Client Beta. Looks like it is finally fixed and all features working.

You was right about that notification, I've checked it once again and answered in that older issue report. I guess I was too anxious to see this "View Game Info" issue to be fixed and that made me blind. :)

after updating to the latest steam client beta i still can't join a friends game using the new friends list.

kisak-valve commented 6 years ago

Hello @zeromang, what game did you try it with?

zeromang commented 6 years ago

@kisak-valve I tested it in team fortress 2 community and casual servers. I also tested it through the friends list on my desktop as well as the in game overlay but neither shows a join game option.

The only way I have found to join a friends game is either through the steam library or through the team fortress 2 server browser.

edit. joining through in game menus works but not overlay or desktop friends list

It appears that in Kubuntu the "rich presense features" are available. In Arch Linux they weren't.

edit. I just reinstalled Antergos (4.18.9-arch1-1-ARCH) and can confirm that the rich presense features are missing.

edit2. I launched steam via terminal and noticed this: sh: lsof: command not found every time I right-clicked someone's name in the friends list. I installed the package "lsof" with pacman and now all the rich features are available.

This indeed seems to work on Manjaro too. I've contacted the Manjaro Linux Team and they've added lsof as a dependency of the steam-manjaro package. I think it should just be included in the Debian control file though..
