Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

"Unread messages" notification doesn't clear even after reading those unread chat messages from now Offline users.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

Have your Steam client minimized.
Make some user to send you a game invite or leave some messages in chat.
Close your Steam client.
Make sure users who send chat messages are offline.
Start your Steam client and click on "Unread messages" notification near your Steam username.
In opened chat windows read messages and close chat windows.
Notice "Unread messages" notification wasn't clear.

Only restarting Steam client helps to clear "Unread messages" notification after you read them.

I have this problem and it doesn't go away with steam restart. Also every time one particular friend logs into steam, the friends list tells me that he has sent me a new message even though there isn't a new message.

This is still a thing. I assume it's incredibly complicated to properly keep a state of unread messages, and update a visual based on it.

Question? I have this issue now... It gets worse each week there's a new one even though I "mark all as read".I'm up to 9 now since it started a couple months back but I'm starting to think maybe it's the players I've blocked that are still in my friends list.like maybe there's ghost msgs even though I can't see them.could this be the issue because if so I'll gladly let them go
