[Feature Request] method to reset / delete / purge Cloud Save data (per game) #5900

Open mjevans opened 5 years ago

mjevans commented 5 years ago

Desired Outcome: ANY or ALL OF:

The last option should also work (without breaking the game after re-install) if literally all the game files have been deleted.

Explanation:

As far as I'm aware, no version of Steam on any platform has a good method for doing something obvious and simple.

A context menu, button, or any other option that actually just tells Steam: "I don't want anything that's been synced up to the server anymore, start this game again from scratch."

In my case this is about getting rid of almost a gig of outdated Factorio saves that I honestly don't want to store in the cloud. I really don't want to go through some BS download of a gigabyte of useless data so I can get the filenames to clobber when all I want to do is forget everything I haven't manually backed up already.

Please just add a method of purging the cloud sync data so that it's back to a fresh game.

Useless data:

Build: Nov 10 2018, at 02:44:42 Steam API: v018 Linux Not currently in Beta It just updated, but I didn't re-check to see if this unexpected minor feature request happened to be added; that seems very unlikely.

I support this feature.

I have over 300 games with synced data and I want to wipe them all. Currently it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove cloud data and it's frustrating not being able to delete the data in the cloud.

I contacted customer support and asked them to delete the data, but they are unwilling to do so, so I really hope someone will implement this feature.

It's 2021 Steam. It is time to give users control over their cloud data.

And, as a bonus, you will get free space!

I really hope it won't be long anymore, people have been asking for years for this feature and this ticket, by now, is already a few years old.

You can see cloud details on https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

I support this feature, some games have less than ideal implementation of cloud for their data, and it would be nice to be able to work around this without having to force a cloud conflict. You already have the interface behind the my account data, why not add a "delete" button?

Case in point: The Witcher 2. It builds up a huge amount of saves, since it creates a new file (along with an uncompressed screenshot) every single time you save, having lot of saves slows down loading severely, if you try to delete the save files with a file manager, Steam just redownloads them, and the in-game save deletion is not an option since you have to delete each save one-by-one, and each one takes several seconds. So cloud sync is effectively unusable with that game the way it works now (of course, purging all files isn't a solution, you need to be able to choose which saves to delete).

It happens that this would have been particularly helpful in the last week, steam controller input management is currently bugged and makes dealing with steam deck custom configs pretty bad right now. If this was already implemented the problem would be less impactful.

Even worse, eventually the game stops saving when you're connected to the internet, and lies about it. So at that point the game is unplayable unless you disconnect from the internet.

im stuck with a corrupt save file nane in victoria 3 and i cannot use cloud saves anymore

Please add this. It's actually needed in many cases to fix legitimate bugs or problems. For example Resident Evil 4 Remake has a bug where loading times are affected by the number of save slots used. It takes a lot of time to load the game if you have all the slots populated which I do.

This would be nice to just scrub a game to its default state.
