Steam won't update #7867

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I expect that steam lunches but I face with the following error message after steam attempts to update: Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again

Hello @bahman5679, this reads like #7667. Can you test if installing and enabling nscd works around the issue? (from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/7667#issuecomment-834005011)

Hello @kisak-valve. Thank you for your attention. I tried the nscd solution, by installing and enabling it. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I also tried to install libnss-resolve:i386 and libnss-resolve which seems to be missing dependencies. But that didn't work either. I also tried to get the IP address of media.steampowered.com and add it to hosts file. Strangely I get the following message after pingging: PING a1843.b.akamai.net (23.58.223.171) 56(84) bytes of data. ^C --- a1843.b.akamai.net ping statistics --- 8 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 7160ms I don't understand why ping pings a1843.b.akamai.net instead of media.steampowered.com.
