"-no-browser" hides steam cloud sync failure message and will not proceed (invisible) #8718

Steps for reproducing this issue:

Ubuntu 20.04LTS, up to date. As is steam. Drivers are fine.

Issue:

  1. launch "steam -no-browser"
  2. have a cs:go that is out of sync with the cloud (somewhat impossible to reproduce)
  3. because of "-no-browser" the steam cloud error dialogue message will NOT be shown and steam will not launch cs:go, it just silently hangs waiting for the user but there is no dialogue that can be seen or acted on.

Workaround:

  1. To work around the problem exit steam. Start steam normally. Launch CS:GO then the dialogue will appear, user input can occur and then the game will start.
  2. Go back to "steam -no-browser" and it will be fine again (until next time... it's probably very very rare).

"-no-browser" is required because the overlay browser heavily hogs resources i.e. "Open your CPU monitor, watch it. Go to the Store, then click on Library. Watch your CPU monitor. Yeah, you couldn't make it up..."

Just don't be distracted by the last comment, the issue being reported is above.

edit: Ubuntu 20.04LTS, not 22.04... damn dates and "muscle memory".

The "out of sync with the cloud" part is unfortunately too easy to reproduce seeing as it affects plenty of people, while in offline mode, with the Cloud Sync option disabled... https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3439081988816567556/ https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3464975249557816820/ https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3458220484824824591/ https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3177859849531848087/ https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3361397532261876867/ https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1850323802572223463/?ctp=6

Very frustrating on both Linux and Windows. This appears to be the "fix" that broke it, dated 27 July 2022 (shortly after, you opened this issue): https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/3361392458123611354

Steam Cloud Fixed showing “Cloud Sync Failure” dialog on game launch when in Offline mode

@WAZAAAAA0, thanks for the update. It's good that it turned out there was another use case where it was easy to reproduce - it wasn't for me because I don't use offline mode (I've got to maintain my sub 1:1 k/d ratio).
