Open deanrih opened 1 year ago

deanrih commented 1 year ago

Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

On Big Picture Mode, when seeing or changing to the Collections page, the whole app (Big Picture Mode) becomes very slow compared to other pages/tabs, even after the page completed the transition, selecting the page's content is still slow.

Additional information

Here's the screen capture showing the problem (Re-encoded to fit within the 10MB GitHub limit):

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/assets/16235605/67de2b99-bdf4-46b4-a29d-140a7937fbb6

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Make sure you have many collections containing many games, probably 5 games per collection is enough
  2. Go to Big Picture Mode
  3. Switch to the Collections Page

This issue is also present for AMD GPUs. For 4K resolution it's even worse.

My specs:

Hello, per "Improved library performance for users with large numbers of collections." in the 2023-07-28 Steam client beta update, please retest this issue.

hjpaul7 commented 1 year ago

@kisak-valve Latest steam beta (2023-07-28) there is no improvement for me. Same results.

Hello, per "Improved library performance for users with large numbers of collections." in the 2023-07-28 Steam client beta update, please retest this issue.

I updated to version 1690583737 and it seems the issue still persists and without any improvement. Also, I should add in the detail that I have around 5 dynamic collections; that may help to track down the problem.

Here too, but with all menus. Super slow performance witn Big picture UI: Pop!_OS 22.04 Nvidia 535.113.01 4K display

rhoot commented 11 months ago

You might be having the same performance issue I do (#10084). You could try the workaround in that issue, but it needs to be reapplied every time the steam client updates.

radgeRayden commented 10 months ago

Can confirm this is still the case. Nvidia on a 4K display.

Performance with the New Big Picture mode on Nvidia is still an issue for me too:

OpenSUSE Leap 15.5 Intel® Core™ i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz × 8 NVIDIA RTX A2000/PCIe/SSE2 Gnome 41.8 X11 545.29.06

Tried both windowed and fullscreen mode, performance is aweful in both cases, but a little bit better in window mode.

Now fixed itself, the UI is very good performance, but sometimes when restart steam will bring back extremely slow FPS. After restart again, fixed again. I use Steam bela(with native lib's replacement), Manjaro Gnome, lastest Nvidia driver and RTX 3060 Ti 8GB

I'm reporting this issue as well

Arch Linux 6.10.9-arch1-2 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT Gnome 46.4 Wayland 1.23.1-1

Tried both steam and steam beta, still getting lag.

Encountered the same issue on latest steam client:

I wonder if this is not platform-related.

I'm having huge FPS drops in Big Picture as well, but I'm on Windows 11.

Tried in both Steam Official Release and Beta, still a horrible experience.

wait, GTX 3070?

mambucodev commented 1 day ago

I tried big picture on a brand new install and it's not lagging. it lagged in my old pc, where I had like 3k packages installed. could this be related?
