Emulation hangs, but emulator itself is still responsive, can enter menus etc.
Windows doesn't report whole application as "Not Responding", at least in my
case.

I wasn't cashing crashing during the save state. I was able to save the state
and load the state, unless I quit the emulator then tried to load the state.

Is this all related?

Is the emulator in some different state every time you open the exe? This would
explain why save sates only work in the same exe instance.

could this be fixed by controlling the location in memory the emulator is
loaded?

In my case I noticed that whenever I open and close the new demul, the process
stays active in the windows task manager.
The first time I had over 10 open demul processes eating away my RAM.
