Pawns will complete a crafting process but the item isn't produced.
The materials are not wasted - they reappear in the crafting spot in place of the crafted or cooked item, and the pawn will just re-use them endlessly trying to fulfill the recipe.
I have tried removing certain pieces of the vanilla expanded mod (weapons and cooking) but it seems as long as the framework is installed nothing that isn't a true vanilla item can be crafted.
