Issue Description

Whenever I try and boot with Safe Graphics, the computer gets stuck on a TTY with the same looping message. The screen also flickers every second.

Steps to Reproduce

On what version of Vanilla OS this happens?

22.10

Additional Information

I'm currently using Arch Linux on my main partition and have Secure Boot enabled without any issue.

The laptop I'm currently using is an HP 15-ef2127wm with the following specs

EDIT: Burnt the ISO to an USB stick with Balena Etcher 1.13.1

kbdharun commented 1 year ago

Can you also specify the software you used to burn the ISO?

Thanks

colorfulmoth commented 1 year ago

@kbdharun Sure! Used Balena Etcher 1.13.1.

Encountered the same error, also when I try to boot normally the graphics are all flickery and glitchy and basically unusable

tacotexmex commented 1 year ago

Similar here! Had this issue first, re-flashed on different memory, got a new flash-every-second type of loop at a halted state. Other distros works fine. Tried every possible BIOS tweak. Somewhat old NVIDIA GPU. https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/25328789/211396352-53ace5e8-8815-4656-89f7-be97a81f62ad.mov

I have the same issue, I have an AMD GPU card. It hangs on GDM, so I can't even install the OS.

Is this r5?

Yes

Same issue here, Ryzen 5. Because of the lack Nvidia drivers in this distro, it doesn't even boot on my Nvidia mobile GPU (RTX 3050). The laptop just reboots after showing the initial log screen. When I enable safe graphics, it gets stuck.

Other distros like ZorinOS work fine because of the Nvidia drivers.

mirkobrombin commented 1 year ago

try the following:

NayamAmarshe commented 1 year ago

try the following:

  • boot the live and when you seen the timer, press Enter
  • then press e and append nomodeset after quiet
  • press F10
  • let me know

Same result. Doesn't work.

NayamAmarshe commented 1 year ago

I think it'd really help us Nvidia users if you could add an option for Nvidia in the setup menu just like ZorinOS. It makes things easier for everybody. image

tacotexmex commented 1 year ago

Swapped GPU from Nvidia to a modern AMD. Issue is the same.

Swapped the GPU to AMD and successfully booted in non-UEFI normal boot mode.

NayamAmarshe commented 1 year ago

Any solutions or plans to add Nvidia drivers? It still doesn't boot on my machine.

Mirkob said he has plans to add a dedicated Nvidia ISO in future for proper live session.

NayamAmarshe commented 1 year ago

Nice, eagerly waiting!

shawny43 commented 1 year ago

Idk why they released an unfinished liveUSB? Without drivers built-in like NVIDIA for example, the OS will never boot anymore and being useless. I hope they may fix the issue quickly. Im currently using KDE Neon and in the most of time after some tweaks i completely fixed some parts of missing nvidia stuff. But Wayland still buggy for me anyways so i stayed at X11 until Nvidia is working for Wayland support. I hope off course!

Can confirm, R7 - RTX3060 doesn't boot in any mode. (can't install) :/

Any updates on this? I really wanna try Vanilla OS for my software development workflows but I cannot cuz I use an Nvidia GPU for my gaming purposes.
