Annoying strobing monitor on LiveUSB #97

Open nonetrix opened 1 year ago

nonetrix commented 1 year ago

When I start the live USB my monitor makes a annoying extremely noticeable flicker effect until I go to settings and change the refresh rate to literally anything else

I am running a MSI Gaming X 8GB GTX 1080 and a ASUS VG248QG 24" G-Sync Gaming Monitor 165Hz over display port and obviously the free software NVIDIA drivers since this is the installer

After installing the problem goes away strangely even though it doesn't save the refresh rate from the installer and I'm still using the free software NVIDIA drivers

(Seizure warning) slowed down so camera can pick it up https://files.catbox.moe/71ap7u.mp4

I've never had this issue on any other Linux distro for added context but this might be due to gsync? I haven't had good experience with gsync on my monitor I get many visual artifacts and usually turn it off, however...

  1. Not sure the free driver supports that
  2. Never had artifacts like this usually just bottom half of my monitor will have white box or something similar

Also this monitor (for some reason) recommends to the GPU to run at only 1920x1080@120Hz instead of it's full 1920x1080@165Hz like advertised and most be manually set to that in settings

This is a co.mon problem with nouveau drivers. The problem is more noticeable in some distro, I have the same with elementary for example.

We can consider to offer a nvidia iso.

I would really love an nvidia iso, or at least the option to install the driver when installing the OS if it detects an nvidia gpu? Would solve the odd headaches I get when re-installing
