vagrant up fails for Windows 10 Hyper-V

Expected Behavior

vagrant up should fully provision with vvv

Current Behavior

I did a vagrant up and on the first run with Windows 10 and Hyper-V and it exited. In the logs a lot of packages were unable to be installed

Install vagrant

Context

This is a provision after doing a vagrant up and then vagrant ssh to install all the packages manually because it had failed.

@tomjn, should this be closed since it has a fixed at #1619.

A lot has changed since this issue, I think we need to re-test from a clean slate for Hyper-V

@tomjn When I try to use vagrant up --provider=hyperv, it keeps saying that the executable VBoxManage Vagrant is trying to run was not found in the %path% variable. This is an error, please verify, if the software is installed.

but when i create a new folder, with vagrant init bento/ubuntu-18.04, then it will try to download hyperv environment.

is this something to do with our Vagrantfile.

Can you try without specify the provider? Because on vagrant up reconized rightly hyperv instead with the parameter had issue.

Can you try on adding https://github.com/Varying-Vagrant-Vagrants/VVV/blob/develop/vvv-config.yml#L102 this line and use hyperv as parameter? In this way we are forcing it to use hyperv.

I've done all i can think off right now. i even create a new folder with vagrant init bento/ubuntu-18.04, from here I can tell is not the environment. it seems to be VVV. i even went to vvv-custom.yml and allow provider: hyperv.

The problem is not the box as I can see or in a new folder, the problem is vagrant that is looking for virtualbox instead of hyperv so we need to see why this detection is failing.

Looking at the second log seems that vagrant is trying to check if hyperv is available and get error from some Windows command.

Hyper-V must be enabled prior to using the provider. 
Most Windows installations will not have Hyper-V enabled by default. 
Hyper-V is available by default for almost all Windows Enterprise, Professional, or Education 8.1 and later installs. 
To enable Hyper-V, go to "Programs and Features", click on "Turn Windows features on or off" and check the box next to "Hyper-V". 
Or install via PowerShell with:

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Hyper-V -All

its already been enabled, i just downloaded the box itself using the the other folder i created.

Well the vagrant's log say that cannot detect the hyperv state. Looking on internet enabled doesn't mean that is working or started.

well it doesn't make sense then to why it would cause this, like i said, if i created a new folder called example, and inside of this example, and run vagrant init bento/ubuntu-18.04, it downloads the box, and started the VM.

@benlumia007 that looks like a windows credentials issue, it could be the type of user account you're using but fundamentally whatever you put in wasn't correct or was for a user that can't be used for that, e.g. a domain user

As for existing installs, once you provision a VM it will always use the same box until you destroy it. You might even have to do more thorough cleaning out to get it to use a different provider

yeah i got it work, on a test folder with the right credentials, but still having issues trying to vagrant up in the vvv folder. still haven't figure it out. it still looks for VBoxManage.

so basically, whenever i create a new fresh VVV folder, from cloning, and if i vagrant up with provider of hyperv, and fails, so it doesn't get passed boot VM or downloading the box. it just fails right after I vagrantup.

the test folder is just the box, nothing else, no VVV configurations. this is just ot make sure that hyperv works.

FYI: For those interested, it looks like a vagrant-related issue rather than this. Details are in the referenced issue/comments above.

Temp fix is to update C:\HashiCorp\Vagrant\embedded\gems\2.2.4\gems\vagrant-2.2.4\lib\vagrant\util\platform.rb or equivalent locally and run vagrant again.

edit: Ignore me, I was conflating different issues together. 🙄

@tomjn and @Mte90 Since we may have done a lot with Hyper-V from the PR i created. Should this be closed for now, since we made a lot of effort on this even tho, it still has issues with Mariadb but we managed to get half it fix.
