Shrines are cramped and cluttered - Redo them to be larger and more impressive, with room for thane banners and such.

can't help probably, may just suggest one idea:

look of a shrine, lighting, character's pose depends on a character - ork-warrior stands in Malakath-like pose (have you seen Malakath statue?), a vampire - something gloomy and dark (PC sleeping in a coffin made of stone? lol), autumn leaves etc
