Stop Vienna from Sorting Folders on the Left Panel #1743

Closed faxotherapy closed 4 months ago

faxotherapy commented 9 months ago

Describe the bug Usually, I never had any issue with Vienna for more than 15+ years. But, this time, it's really annoying. Vienna always auto-sorts my folders in the alphabetical order on the left panel, although I set it manually. I do not want it to do that. Is there any way to force Vienna not to auto-sort folders on the left panel. I just want it to leave my manual sort alone.

It seems like Vienna reverts back to auto-sort after I set it manually.

To Reproduce Actually, I don't know how to reproduce it, because it happens the second time, and seems to do it a whim.

Please complete the following information:

Thank you.

This happens to me as well - very annoying. Have to either restore from Time Machine or re-import from my subscription export. Mac Sonoma 14.4 Version 3.9.0 :7ad9df044: (8175)

It did it again. Switching back to previous version (and will no longer update this app)

I've had this happen a few more times. It seems to happen after every OS update. Updated to 14.6 today and after restart Vienna had again reset View->Order By->Manual setting to View->Order By->Name. To get my subscriptiions back in order I have to restore my subscriptions from an opml backup.

Vienna was non responsive this morning and I had to force quit it. When it started it again reverted the the setting View->Order By->Manua to View->Order By->Name.

Does it only happen after a crash or force-quit or during normal operation as well?

Since you mentioned OS updates: could it be that the system closes Vienna when it reboots to start the update?

liamgreenwood commented 5 months ago

I have been experiencing this for at least 6 months. I have seen it happen after a force-quit and after update reboots. I can't answer about crashes - I don't know that I have seen any.

I just did a normal user requested reboot (Black Apple->Restart...) and the setting stayed fine.

I let the reboots (both the user requested and the update reboots) kill all the running apps including Vienna.

There is work in version 3.9.1 related to this issue. Can you confirm / infirm if there is an improvement?

I installed 3.9.1 and it did not change the Order By setting! Yay! Thank you
