Missing Help in Vienna #1769

Open fpuhan opened 1 month ago

fpuhan commented 1 month ago

Vienna 3.9.1 macOS 13.4.1

When selecting "Vienna Help" from the Help menu, a blank help page appears. There is no help text.

(I can't find documentation, and am trying to figure out why some of my RSS feeds are showing the yellow exclamation point, even though they are updating).

Vienna Help is working for me. Which language are you using?

Have you checked the activity window (Window → Activity Window) to check the status of the feeds in question? Can you share the feed URLs that are not updating correctly?

I am using English (US). There is no language setting in Vienna I can find.

Thank you for the activity window tip. I can see that two of my feeds are currently timing out. That explains the exclamation mark. I might have learned that had the Help been available, but all I get is a blank page (see attached screen shot).

OS: macOS 13.4.1 Vienna: 3.9.1 :a82691eb: (8219)

Does the help use any cross-site link or popups? Could it be that it’s being blocked by my security software?

Regards,

Fred

The help menu uses local HTML documents that are included in the Vienna.app bundle, there is no Internet connection involved. The help functionality is based on very old and poorly documented API. We have problems with it occasionally.

Do you run Vienna from the /Applications folder or from another location ?

Please note that Help Book content is cached and macOS resorts to that cached version. So help may take a very long time to update.

The best way to accelerate this is to bring a copy of the new version of the app into Applications, launch the app from the Applications folder, and Logout. Once you log out and log back in, it may take about 5 minutes to get updates to appear.
