Will this work with EEv4 #18

Greetings, I have been also fan of your work, thanks for contributing so much, just had a query, that will this git work with the latest EE v4.0. It was just released today or will this need additional modifications based on the new structure of EE v4.

VirtuBox commented 5 years ago

Hello @ashishdungdung, at the moment I haven't use EEv4 enough to be able to say if ubuntu-nginx-web-server configurations are still compatible with the new EE release, or if it will be possible to use them.

@VirtuBox

So, any plan to release the new version for EE v4 please?

VirtuBox commented 5 years ago

Hello @alexlii1971,

Not yet, it will mostly depend on our usage of EEv4. If we migrate from EEv3 to EEv4, no doubt I will create another repository with EEv4 customization. But I'm currently working on https://wordops.org/ (EEv3 Fork) to integrate all my custom configurations to EEv3. It should be (as soon as the first version is released) an up-to-date version of EEv3 and WordOps team already plan to add several new features. This way, everybody will have the choice between WO (EEv3) or EEv4 depending on their usage or their needs.

Great News Master :) Didn't know you're planning such a great tool. I have been following your work since last 1 Year and I see you are too much dedicated towards the Web performance and a really helping person too.

I have no plans to use EEv4 as of now as EEv3+Your Guides/Configurations are more than enough for me. Can't wait to try my hands on WordOPS. Best of Luck for the project.

Thanks @nsgoyat, I'm working with WordOps team for few days only, they already contacted my few months ago but I wasn't sure if the project will be released someday.

EEv3 code has been already refactored by the WordOps main developer and my job is now to integrate all my custom configurations and EEv3 fixes into WO.

This way, this repository should not be needed anymore (I will still update my configurations but it should be automatically performed by WO).

I hope we will be able to make this EEv3 fork a great tool to manage servers, with up-to-date packages and configurations, and regular releases to avoid being in the same state than current EEv3 (this is not a criticism against EE team, I totally understand they stopped working on EEv3 to develop something compatible with their own usage and for DevOps, EEv4 will be an excellent solution).

That's grest Master. Please, notify through your Twitter handle once you've completed the configurations implementation in WO. I will love to move to WO once you confirm it's ready to replace EEv3.

Hello @ashishdungdung, at the moment I haven't use EEv4 enough to be able to say if ubuntu-nginx-web-server configurations are still compatible with the new EE release, or if it will be possible to use them.

Alright, I would tend to reuse the same configurations by mirroring them on a new server with EE v4. as the file structure has changed. It will take some to get used to.

Yes, about WordOps, I have been following that too. Have fired it on several servers, Seems a neat fork.

About using the EEv3 Fork as a tool for managing the servers with up-to-date packages is a bonafide idea.

About EEv4 it, will take some time for it to mature and people to get experienced with it.

Till then I might as well try to give in some of my findings, some funding, as a contribution to the development.

Hi @VirtuBox As WordOPS is out of the beta stage so should we use it right now? Have your configurations been integrated fully in it? Will the configurations be auto-updated on the server or we need to do it manually like Copying from Github and Pasting on the server.

How does it handle the SSL i.e the generated certificate is RSA 2048 Bits or ECDSA 384 Bits? Will there be the need nginx-ee bash script on WordOPS too?

Being a fan, I'm following your decision. Do let us know whenever you start using WordOPS or EEv4. I hope you will update the ubuntu-configurations page once you move to WordOPS or EEv4.

Thanks :)

Hello @nsgoyat,

You can try using WordOps now, but I haven't use it on my servers enough to confirm everything is working properly.

Currently, only my script ee-acme-sh has been integrated in WordOps. I'm working on updating EEv3 configurations but it take more time than expected because I'm cleaning up as much as possible my configurations and I add comments to explain each directive.

You can watch WordOps repository's pull requests to check if I have pushed my configurations, probably in the next few days.

I will publish informations as soon as WordOps is fully ready (It should already be more up-to-date than EEv3).

nsgoyat commented 5 years ago

Even I hold myself back from installing WordOPS right now because I see some installation errors reported by users. So as of now, I will just wait for you to publish the information. Thanks Master :)
