Here is a first cut of the code changes needed to resolve issue #395

Hi Greg,

This is failing because you're trying to merge into the master branch. Can you create a pull request against the dev branch? The tests should then pass and we can look at merging.

Is this PR something you'd like to see done? If so I'd like to get some automated tests in place which would make this a larger PR.

As an alternative in the other direction, I can close the issue and PR if this is not something you'd like to see implemented.
