Create an "happening" collection. This collection can be used for announcements, community events, monthly meetings, etc. Anything that is an upcoming.

Existing blog could be leveraged instead and it could all be based off an "Event" tag.
Set up a config file where users can choose what tags will be incorporated into the happenings collection. Those tags should be a drop down list based off the tags set up for the blog.
