1 year ago Why Adafruit SCD - 41 CO2 sensor?
- Provides good range and accuracy to utilise in indoor monitoring projects and scientific experiments.
- Along with CO2, this sensor module can also measure temperature and Humidity data.
- Good Library and documentation support from Adafruit and compatibility with Raspberry Pi.
- Good accuracy within its measurable range. ± (40 ppm + 5% of reading)
Why store data in Local db?
- We can access the data offline or have it as a backup.
- Can generate reports with offline data
Why RPI over Arduino?
- Flexibility in the Programming language (C/C++ or Python)
- Storage Capabilities
- For the use of advanced Python Libraries for data visualisation
- can automate the reports generation using Linux by setting the time
- can connect and operate with the VNC viewer from a phone or laptop
Reason to choose ThingSpeak over other platforms?
At this point, I decided on the ThingSpeak platform due to its more data visualisation options, remote access to multiple users, and easy Python implementation. I will also explore other cloud platforms like Adafruit and Firebase and include my comparisons in my report.
What difference from existing readily available in the market?
- Most of the available CO2 monitors are simple products without internet connectivity, and only a few companies provide complete IoT solutions. In this project, I am adding automatic ventilation and AQI report generation.
- Most of the top products use NDIR technology CO2 sensors, and SCD-41 is a photoacoustic 'true' CO2 sensor that will tell you the ambient air's CO2 PPM composition. Unlike the NDIR-type sensor, this sensor isn't approximating CO2 from VOC gas concentration.
