See changelog/test-architecture for details of this pull request, which additionally fixes several bugs in the VEModel data extraction functions (it wasn't looking back up through the Datastore path so you would only get fields in the most recent model stage). This is being logged (and left open) as a pull request just to provide an example of what a pull request (and especially its' changelog document) should contain.
