Drivers of Change #700

Hi, @klongleywood , I see in the data tracking doc that the Drivers of change data is ready. Could you please send it or explain to us how to grab it from the Restoration dataset?

Hi @AngelArcones and @dhakelila.

From the Vizz country stats data, you can pull the primary loss driver for the country from the column called "Driver" from the Vizz_Country_Stat csv provided with the restoration data. I'm checking with Tom to see if we can use the numbers from Columns N, O, and P in some sort of infographic for that widget, but I need clarification on what they represent. I'll get back to you on that

On the map, the display should be the typological units (the same ones used in the Restoration dataset) using the attribute called Driver. There are 5 different drivers so they can each be symbolized by a different color.

@AngelArcones and @dhakelila and fyi @lhilarides

I just talked to Tom and he suggested a slightly different approach to this that includes using the original drivers of change data. I'll be in touch in the next few days with an updated source dataset, but this suggestion actually simplifies the overall design.

Hi @AngelArcones and @dhakelila fyi @lhilarides

I'm attaching the data that can be used for the Drivers of Change widget. Column K can be used to populate the sentence:

"The primary driver of mangrove loss in [Country] between 2000 - 2016 was [Column K value]" (Note that NPC = Non-Productive Conversion. This acronym should be spelled out in this sentence).

Then, there can be a donut chart populated with values from Columns AA - AE. Each slice of the donut represents the proportion of loss caused by each driver. (We can make the title for the chart read something like "Proportion of loss caused by each driver". The colors used in the donut chart for each driver can be used on the map.

The map should show country outlines symbolized by the driver type.

Let me know if you have any questions!

@klongleywood We have a question (or 2) for this widget: Is this widget expected to show at for worldwide also? If so, how should those values be calculated? We could average percentages, but that would compare impacts at large and small countries as the same, so perhaps it should be calculated from the same source as the countries. Are these worldwide values something that could be provided from your side?

klongleywood commented 1 year ago

Hi @AngelArcones -- this is a good question. My initial feeling is that we might not want to provide these data at the global scale for the reasons you stated, but let me verify this on our data team call on Friday. I'll let you know then!

Hi @lhilarides and @klongleywood,

I have the design for this widget (at the country level). If you zoom out inside the prototype, you can see how the layer's colors work comparing countries.

Let me know what you think.

Thank you!

klongleywood commented 1 year ago

@larranz-vizz I like it! @lhilarides what do you think?

Also, @AngelArcones confirming that we don't need this summarized at the global scale

lhilarides commented 1 year ago

Same here, good to go
