Howdy! I'm relatively unfamiliar with LaTeX, but I'd like to learn. How are you building the guide from the files?

If you are on Linux and have TeX Live installed, you can just run make.sh script. Otherwise, the most basic build command is xelatex -synctex=1 retrotype-guide.tex.
