Putting late-game currency to good use #100

In a lot of games, by the time I get to about mid-game, I have a problem where the currency is essentially useless. There is not enough stuff for me to spend money on to stop my swelling pocket.

Most recently, I had this problem in Red Dead Redemption 2, but there were a number of games like this. Boneraiser caps the money that a player can get, and so I just constantly stay at the cap.

I have spoken to others about this, and they were saying that the best way to combat this is to have enough money sinks so that the player never is able to accumulate enough wealth that this is a problem. Another suggestion was that the prices of items should be exponential. So that, even though they are getting substantially more money than earlier in the game, it at least can be spent accordingly.

I think though that the problem that I have always faced is that the items that can be bought are almost never as good as the ones that could be found by grinding.
