Not sure if this is too granular an approach, but I really like the way content warnings work on VNDB, where there are multiple levels of warnings (e.g. suggestive vs. explicit), so I'd love to see something like that.
Users should get a warning when browsing content that might not be suitable for all audiences. We can use DeviantArt's classification for mature content as a basis.
Mature content includes nudity and violence/gore, in which case it applies primarily to artwork such as album covers and PVs. It may also be strong language or sexual themes, which applies primarily to song lyrics.
Currently there's tags for NSFW, explicit lyrics and guro. The NSFW tag is roughly the same as mature content, the root category. Maybe the NSFW tag could be renamed as "mature content". Explicit lyrics includes sexual themes and strong language. guro is somewhat the same as gore/violence, although guro isn't strictly restricted to artwork (it can be a theme as well).
It's uncertain whether the best way to do this would be using tags. We could also have content flags on the album/song edit page. I suggest at least two categories: one for erotic content and another for violence/gore. Users browsing songs or albums marked with these content flags would get an appropriate warning before viewing the content. There could be a setting in "my settings" that allows ignoring these warnings, similar to pixiv and DeviantArt (pixiv has two settings: R-18 and R-18G (for ero-guro), DeviantArt has just one "mature content" setting)
