This is an interesting idea and I think it will be popular. If I implement this and it works well, is it possible to get an official endorsement from Yomitan ?
Sure, we'd love to get it to a point where it is useful to our users, then we can recommend it in the docs and explain how to set it up. We've been setting up the yomichan-forvo-server as a "Custom URL" in our audio sources, but we can add a HyperTTS
option to make it easier to use, mockup:
Some details that might be useful:
term
is the text, the reading is currently there just to disambiguate between japanese terms. Choosing the language in the request is important so yomitan users can switch between different languages from the frontend. Maybe there are some HyperTTS settings that could additionaly be exposed here, like the gender, but that's not essential.
In the yomitan docs we currently recommend the https://github.com/jamesnicolas/yomichan-forvo-server anki add-on, since it allows hearing the audio before adding a word to Anki. Would it be possible to add to HyperTTS a local server like that, to fetch audio according to the current settings on request?
