Question Regarding Batocera Conversion #137

Hey there, just a general question, when I convert a given Exodos game rip to Batocera, do you happen to know if it the converted ripped game deliberately uses Dosbox Pure etc?

I am curious because I know exodos just makes dosbox configs for dos games but didn't know if the converted rip is changed to a different dos emulator than what was originally intended on the normal Windows release of Exodos?

Obviously the emulator used by Batocera is only based on what’s configured in Batocera

However you can specifically choose dosbox-pure conversion in the converter

Do you happen to know what is the most ideal emulator to choose / most accurate?

Asking since I really like Batocera since eXoDOS on Linux is a bit lacking since I like the themed that the Batocera menu provides as well as the filters etc. more so since the Linux port always felt like a kind of afterthought and not as strong as the Windows release.

Thanks for answering my previous question though

I don't know what you mean by 'eXoDOS on Linux', is it dos game installer ?

I'd say the most ideal emulator would be either basic dosbox or lr-dosbox-pure

Not all games will work with this however, eXoDOS uses a vast variety of dosbox emulators to make all game work, and most of those are not available on Batocera or any other retrogaming distribution

I'd say most of well known games will work though

The main issue is the controls, but Batocera might be one of the better distribution for that

DOSBox Staging will run at least 95% of games perfectly, in rare cases you need DOSBox-X. Maybe 10 other games need special DOSBox builds/forks, i guess.

Oh that makes total sense now. I realized after exiting from a few DOS games that were converted with this converter in Batocera that they were using DOSBox Pure.

It is good to know about the preference to maybe try out DOSBox Staging for that reason since I noticed weird 'too fast' issues for games like Descent, which I attributed to thinking that the Windows version rip of the Exodos DOS game probably used some separate emulator or config or something.

Very interesting.

I know that Batocera does support dosbox staging so that's worth a shot.

Might go this route in that case and rip the entire collection somehow to run on that same PC.

Thanks for the heads up on this, awesome

Most likely you need to configure retroarch for dosbox-pure, it seems your dosbox.conf is not taken into account, see the readme of this project (main page)
