Repeat + resize issue #148

Grafana v6.2.5 (commit: 6082d19) Status Panel 1.0.9

ENVIRONMENT I'm using Zabbix as datasource. My metric is have set the setAlias() and sumSeries() set. I have 2 metrics set. I'm using variables with the objective to enable the Repeat resource and show multiple panels.

PROBLEM 1 Either with Repeat disabled the panel is resizing automatically with huge size, sometimes they get the full row where I put it. When the Repeat is enabled, then is worse, because all items expand taken one row of each panel and when I change the variable to show only one panel again, the unique panel become occupying the entire row. Is there a way to keep their size fixed?

PROBLEM 2 I set the variable into the Repeat option and back to the dashboard. I change the variable to ALL to refresh it. They duplicate as expected with the two values of my variable. But when I edit the panel again, the Repeat is unset and that become to mess all. If I set again the Repeat, they create two more panels (becoming with four when should have only two). But I notice if I change the variable, in a way where become only one panel and then edit it, the Repeat parameter is set correctly. So, the Repeat parameter is gone/mess when having multiple panels because of the variable/repeat.

If consider necessary I can upload a few screenshots.

Hi @ceinmart how did you get this to work with Zabbix? Trying to build a panel for systems, just to show if there up and healthy. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Grafana v7.5.1 (4dffb875cf) Status Panel: 1.0.10

I'm also experiencing this issue. I have tried sizing the panel both by modifying the JSON model directly and by clicking and dragging in the UI. If I configure the repeated panel as so:

Then when the repeating panels get rendered the size configuration that I applied to the repeated panel is ignored:

Grateful for any help, also happy to help test/ debug if someone can point me in the right direction.

Cheers,

Edd

All I could do is pick the number of items on a row to try and get the size I wanted.

Thanks for your reply @davdhillon. I don't quite understand what you mean when you say "pick the number of items on a row"? Do you mean that you used many individual panels, rather than 1 repeating panel?

davdhillon commented 3 years ago

Hi,

So I did two things, to get this to work for me.

  1. It seems all individual panels resize to the size of the first / initial panel. So I tried to get this to a decent size.
  2. Then I use this option for the number of panels on a row within the plugin @.***D72585.32055F90]

Its not perfect, but a combination of the two has almost worked for me.

Thanks.

I'm reading this in 2022, I don't know how many people out there still facing this issue. I strangled keeping my panels size the same when updating my variables and I have been searching for the solution online and didn't find anything till I got to this conversation which didn't provide a solution to the solution but it helped me discover where the issue is. If you have many panels in your dashboard and when you have them set up the way you want in term of sizing, the panels expand in width after you select a value in the variable drop menu, then go to the panel options on all the panels and set the repeat direction to "VERTICAL". This is going to solve your sizing issue. Hope this is going to help some new grafana users out there.
