balance & elastic (megathread) #13

So. the game is not totally unbalanced, but it can definitely feel hopeless early.

fourtress: make everything take 4 instead of 3. better metaphor. Or metafour, if you will. Hara peko might then be 5 or 6, depending. pro: metaphor, anti-cheese, distance from tripletown con: longer, distance from triple town, invalidates working name

better, naturally (anti-cheese): in theory, 5 terrible rolls off the bat and the villagers win (building, building, building, wild, wild). one way to address this is to never let more than one wild be involved in any one project. pro: anti-cheese con: i wrote all that code....

lower or larger dice (anti-cheese): of course, another thing that would be possible is to just take building off (some of?) the dice, so the small stuff happens more often. one idea is to have dice (1,1,2,3,5,6) or and (1,2,2,3,5,6), or 1,2,3,A,5,6 where A is harapeko's appetite. Another option is to change from d6 to say, d8, with 1 1 2 2 3 4 5 6 or similar. so:

buffs => cards elastic: one way the game gets tippy is harapeko getting buffs out early and denying the villager card draw. (See #11) So... villager draws a card for every buff after the first peko uses in a turn? or every time peko plays a buff, and every turn that ends with peko having 3? .. .options are there, try one. pro:pretty sure it would work, one way or another con: lots of things to try and might be heavy cognitive load for play

buki slog: one way peko gets far behind is getting too caught up in buki (&| the decoy). I haven't had this happen since i semi-nerfed buki, but it might be worth another look. One option is to let peko have another way to deal with them - e.g. earthquake. (would aos make sense of earthquake got buki out of trap, but traps are already easy) pro: could help peko out of tight spots con: atm peko is more often the winner, i think. also, i don't really want to make earthquake the all-in-one ult... do i?

Maybe give a lumber along with card-on-die, so you always get a block. Not that you get that very often.

Maybe change Supplies extra block penalty to be draw & discard, rather than just draw? Kaiju gets plenty cards.

Villager still needs more card draw. (this should happen somewhat, with research now being force shuffle, plus the warehouse changes and maybe some extra lumber sometimes.) Maybe a card that clones a block you have? or a bigger/better winch? or other winch-like things?
