Beeswarm plot #59

We were discussing alternatives to the boxplot figure type. Something that's very similar to what was described verbally in the room is called a "beeswarm" plot. For example from https://www.excelnaccess.com/beeswarm-chart/:

beeswarm

The nice thing about these types of plot is that the circles are not allowed to overlap. Instead, they're pushed to the side. This makes it possible to use (much) larger circles without them obscuring each other.

Another option then is to scale the circles with the inverse of the number of ensemble members for each method. If you do that, the total area for each method is equal.

Nice idea, but I think we dismissed this idea (since we are not very interested in highlighting how many ensemble members contribute). So I will close this for now, but feel free to open it again if you still think it would be worthwhile in pursuing.

Even if you don't use it for highlighting individual members, I still think this type of figure could be more suitable than the boxplots or standard scatter points we have now, because you can make much bigger dots without the overlap
