Hi Eli, thanks for the email which was forwarded through to me.

Thanks for clarifying your experience, it was not something that I expected in reply to the email. The data that AER has published into the CMIP6 ESGF archive (linked here) was published with data usage guidance defined by the CMIP6 terms of use (linked here). This data license, is explicit in that is covers “CMIP6 model data..” rather than the model codebase which is what I presume tripped you over?

Once we have finished the license relaxation process (AER is one of three remaining – also including the RTE-RRTMGP-Consortium in which AER is a partner, no?) we had planned on updating all outward facing webpages to clarify this license relaxation, from the more restrictive “ShareAlike” CC BY-SA 4.0 to the CC BY 4.0 “Attribution” only license. We’ll make sure to point out clearly that these licenses are model data specific, rather than the codebase of the model itself.

Just to confirm, AER contributed data from the following models: LBLRTM-12-8, RRTMG-LW-4-91, RRTMG-SW-4-02 and RTE-RRTMGP-181204 through Consortium, so if you approve, I will relax the data licenses associated with each.

Also Rich Pernak rpernak@aer is listed as the (license) exceptions contact for the data, should this be updated to an institutional mailing list, or should we leave this as is?

Cheers,

P
