Besides CMIP, I think there are tables for obs4MIPs, maybe input4MIPs, CORDEX, among others. Would we want to limit our WIP listing to projects under the WCRP purview, or include any project that supports multi-model ensemble research?

I'd be tempted to do both, list WCRP projects first and then a section on others, making it clear where ownership / responsibility lies.
We have a lot of tables at https://github.com/PCMDI/
Those that work with CMOR3 (json formatted) cmip6-cmor-tables input4MIPs-cmor-tables obs4MIPs-cmor-tables PCMDIobs-cmor-tables
And those that work with CMOR2/1 (standard text format) cmip5-cmor-tables cmip3-cmor-tables cordex-cmor-tables ana4MIPs-cmor-tables c-lamp1-cmor-tables cfmip1-cmor-tables iaemip1-cmor-tables geomip-cmor-tables lucid-cmor-tables pmip3-cmor-tables
@wachsylon adding you to this thread, regarding your https://github.com/PCMDI/cmor/issues/627 query - let's move discussions here

OK. We will create tables then in our dkrz gitlab and make them open for all. We will create the repo when a first set of clearly defined variables exists.
We decided to name the tables PalMod2_*.json. One comment because I saw that approach in other directories: We will add variables to e.g. PalMod2_Omon.json instead of creating sth like PalMod2_pOmon.json if this variable is not from any CMIP phase.
@wachsylon the way we have proceeded with non-CMIP6 variables, is to define these new - the obs4mips-cmor-tables repo is the best example.
The way these are defined, we pull all CMIP6 data request defined variables each time the tables are rewritten, and then add the obs4MIPs specific variables on top of the existing variables - this ensures consistency with the CMIP6 data, although I can't imagine we'll be seeing many more updates to the cmip6-cmor-tables or the data request now that 01.00.33 is finalized and released
Hi all, I've added a page to take CMOR links plus mip tables with all the information from the above.
@durack1 -- please have a quick look and shout if you have any suggestions, otherwise I'll close this down in a few days
@wachsylon -- please raise an issue here or let me know when you have a set of tables and any associated information and I'll add links
@matthew-mizielinski this looks great to me, everything is there that I know about. @wachsylon we can add your PalMod2 tables to the bottom heading, if these don't currently exist (with public access), we can close this issue and another can be opened when these tables exist
@matthew-mizielinski @durack1
Thank you for the efforts. I like the page with lists of tables. The question now is: where to put kind of "merge requests" for the list?
@wachsylon , if you can open a new issue and let me know the link I'll get it added next week
In PCMDI/cmor#627 I've commented suggesting that the WIP pages could link to MIP table repositories for various projects
