via @ajacsherman a bigger example related to bat names. ajasherman-batnames-authorship-citations-2022-12-14.tsv.txt
For Acerodon humilis listed on the third line in the linked file above, the reference to K. Andersen should show up at https://scholia.toolforge.org/topic/Q301625#earliest-published-works
It seems difficult to get from "K. Andersen 1909 Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 7" to a Wikidata entry. I was not immediately able to find the reference. "ser 7" does not correspond to the year in https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/63688#page/7/mode/1up
For Acerodon humilis there seems to be a mistake somewhere. The original treatment by Andersen is here
The Annals and magazine of natural history; zoology, botany, and geology Year: 1909 Pages: 25-26 Series: 8 Volume: 3
@fnielsen @qgroom thanks for sharing and offering a correction. How would one go about updating the wikidata entry to reflect the suggested correction?
For some reason, I was unable to find the taxonomic literature related to the Acerodon humilis at the page you pointed to https://scholia.toolforge.org/topic/Q301625#earliest-published-works .
I've included some related screenshots.
Pretty neat to see the related topics with the images. Is there a way to get the publication and author re: Anderson to show up here also?
I have added it now: https://scholia.toolforge.org/topic/Q301625#earliest-published-works
@fnielsen very cool! Thanks for adding that. Lets say we have thousands of these relations between taxonomic names and related (free text) citation strings to taxonomic literature, how would you go about repeating this process?
Also neat to see that the wikidata entry for author Knud Andersen was created many years ago.
I have asked on WikiProject Taxonomy about how one should like first valid description and taxon: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Taxonomy&diff=1790395561&oldid=1778332266
I am not sure we have automated means.
here is the doi of the article: https://doi.org/10.1080/00222930908692540 including the protologs
here is the treatment:
https://treatment.plazi.org/id/515487D3B33EB50FFE3AB63CC1972475
Here is another interesting point.
This is the DOI for the article https://doi.org/10.1080/00222930908692540 created by the JNatHist.
the DOI then refers to the ojnline publication, not the original publication.
and here the cover of the original publication
@myrmoteras the plot thickens . . . fascinating! And these are just a few examples. I wonder if there's a way to quantify/ visualize these associations at scale.

Question
We want to find the original taxonomic treatment for Tenrec ecaudatus (Schreber 1778), which is “[Erinaceus] ecaudatus Schreber 1778 , Die Saugethiere, Vol. 3: 590” but when we look for this on BHL (https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/bibliography/67399) we find that the name is mentioned in the index on p590 but the treatment is given on p584 (in old German). To what extent can Scholia / Wikidata help us to better track down this treatment citation and extract / link from it? See also likely wikidata author id https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q162688 . In general, we would like to establish an automated pipeline for extracting the authority treatments corresponding to old / rare literature, and we are wondering if Scholia / Wikidata has some helpful strategies we can use toward this task.
In general, we'd like to find ways to related name authorship to the taxonomic publication.
