The best, non-hacky way seems to be the "enterprise environment" configuration.
A mozilla.cfg may be sufficient: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1115451
More examples: https://www.itsupportguides.com/knowledge-base/tech-tips-tricks/how-to-customise-firefox-installs-using-mozilla-cfg/
However things may have changed in recent years: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox/Enterprise_deployment
Full policies.json documentation: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox-enterprise/policies-customization-enterprise/policies-overview-enterprise (which is actually quite lacking, but at least it tells where to place the file)
An example of policies.json that also sets an home page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1234753#answer-1156972
Not easy, but also not terribly hard...
Set weeeopen.polito.it as homepage for Firefox.
