The UI should maximize the number of images the user can see at one time, which means the header and footer should be eliminated or collapsed by default for that view. In addition, the controls should be smaller (smaller font sizes and less spacing) so that they fit in the left-hand panel without requiring a vertical scroll bar for reasonable-sized windows.
