(in hindsight, should have made a separate branch, but thought impact would be minimal at this point if I just kept it on gh-pages directly)

Thank you! I think making your change directly in your gh-pages branch is fine, it's probably only an issue when you want multiple PRs going on at once (I assume there's no issue with submitting another new PR from the same branch that had a previous PR, though I admit I've never tried).
