Why not remove gender entirely?
I asked the board about this. It seemed that they also discussed it. They said that gender is only used for composing committees, for example, to prevent that committees end up with n
males and k
other genders. where n >> k
. They concluded that they still wanted to store this data.
I would also argue that keeping track of gender can be used to evaluate the need for better all-gender policies in CH. This would of course first have to pass through a general assembly before the data might even be considered to be used for that, but it can aid as argumentation for certain policy implementations that aim to equalize gender treatment. (This is all speculative of course)
